  12. at ú169 and ú199 respectively.Could I buy one of those and add 24bit
  13. cards to my Amiga or do I HAVE to buy the full system.I don't know if
  14. it is just me but I feel that the price for the full system is way too
  15. high(ú680 for the lowest priced full system:Tower case,5 Zorro II
  16. slots,3 PC-ISA slots,170mb hdd and unspecified s/ware).I also need to
  17. be able to still use my GVP 1230-II as buying a new card for the new
  18. slots would cost even more.If users are forced to buy a whole system
  19. and a new processor card we are talking around ú1900(ú400 for A1200,
  20. ú700 for tower and slots etc,ú300 for 24bit card,ú500 for 040+4mb).
  21. This does not sound too good does it?No wonder PC's are dominating the
  22. scene if they can chuck out a Pentium for less than ú1000(And no one
  23. come back at me with the 'Yes but you have to fork out lots of cash to
  24. upgrade etc.' because you have to fork out loads to upgrade the Amiga
  25. as well AND the PC has tons of quality software and more is being
  26. written.).Don't get me wrong I love the Amiga but sometimes it just
  27. does not seem reasonable to compare it to PC's etc because they have
  28. more options in software and hardware usually at a lower price(well
  29. hardware anyway).Also I feel a bit embarassed when I see posts about
  30. Amiga vs PC games.IMHO Doom has no equal on the Amiga.Doom has full
  31. screen gfx,lorry-loads of atmosphere,fast on most 486(I was hooked on
  32. my friends 25mhz 486).The Amiga clones usually equal it in one respect
  33. at a time(e.g.Gloom has out and out gun frenzy,Fears has a lot of
  34. atmosphere due to the sounds of machinery in distance etc,AB3D has
  35. good gameplay,AB3DII has technically brilliant new features) but not
  36. one of them has all the qualities in one game.
  37.         AB3D II I think has been very much overrated by Amiga freaks
  38. wanting to bloody the PC's nose.Yes I enjoyed playing the demo but I
  39. spent hard cash on my GVP1230 but even that does not seem to give
  40. me the power to play the games I want to(e.g. SimCity 2000 was slow
  41. as f*ck,AB3DII in full screen was slow as f*ck,there are no t-mapped
  42. flight/combat sims,where is a Command and Conquer clone?Beat-em-ups-
  43. they consist of 2 characters on a background so why are they all so
  44. crap on the Amiga I have seen better on my friends 8-bit PC Engine,
  45. graphic adventures-hi res would be nice<does FOTAQ have hi res?I hope
  46. so.>)
  47.         The Amiga really does need some piece of hardware to free
  48. it from the present limitations such as a 1200 gfx card to allow
  49. v. fast gfx speeds.I know this won't be free but I do object paying
  50. for a whole tower system and new processor card to fit a gfx card.Just
  51. imagine if an inexpensive solution appeared then we could use
  52. Shape-Shifter and all have MACs as well(Let's face it there seems to
  53. be more software coming out for the MAC then Amiga these days)Wankers
  54. like me could also emulate PC's to play Doom,Hexen,TFX and so on.
  55.         Please believe me when I say I love the Amiga.I have been
  56. using them since the 500 appeared(apparently I had the first one in
  57. Southampton)and I think they are beautiful machines but I am now
  58. starting to think that they have had their day.Even this new Walker
  59. box will not save it I think.I believe a new machine should have had
  60. an even faster cpu and no reliance on AGA(too slow) and a chunky
  61. screen.
  62.         Someone save the Amiga and bring us a gfx card without a
  63. prohibitively high cost.This would allow fantastic games and fast gfx
  64. to woo potential customers (I don't think anyone would buy an Amiga on
  65. the strength of AB3D I or II compared to say Duke Nukem 3d on the PC).
  66.         Sorry to be such a downer.No one will be sadder than me to see
  67. the Amiga die so someone do something.Take up the Mat Bettinson
  68. challenge in last months CU Amiga and card my Amiga up good and proper
  69. otherwise in the future we will be obliged to use PCs as they will be
  70. the only system available.

  74. p.s. Fabio Bizetti I am counting on you.Ever since I read that info
  75. file in the VK demo I have hoped that you can pull off all these
  76. plans you hinted at.The core machine you should be aiming to get
  77. Pentium-type game performance out of is A1200+030.Give us 256 colours
  78. at 25+fps in hi-res and we shall venerate as a God.
